Eternal hope for Summer


I wear flip flops every day at the hospital, even in the cold weather.  They are so much easier to manage when I am getting in and out of bed with Sarah throughout the day. I get many comments on them, but today I got one that made me think...."Eternal hope for Summer".  Yes!  I have an eternal hope for brighter days ahead, and that hope keeps me going, it lets me put one foot in front of the other.  It makes me think of a talk Elder Joseph B. Wirthlin gave years ago.

"I think of how dark that Friday was when Christ was lifted up on the cross.
On that terrible Friday the earth shook and grew dark. Frightful storms lashed at the earth.....On that Friday the Savior of mankind was humiliated and bruised, abused and reviled.
It was a Friday filled with devastating, consuming sorrow that gnawed at the souls of those who loved and honored the Son of God.
I think that of all the days since the beginning of this world’s history, that Friday was the darkest.
But the doom of that day did not endure.
The despair did not linger because on Sunday, the resurrected Lord burst the bonds of death. He ascended from the grave and appeared gloriously triumphant as the Savior of all mankind.
Each of us will have our own Fridays—those days when the universe itself seems shattered and the shards of our world lie littered about us in pieces. We all will experience those broken times when it seems we can never be put together again. We will all have our Fridays.
But I testify to you in the name of the One who conquered death—Sunday will come. In the darkness of our sorrow, Sunday will come.
No matter our desperation, no matter our grief, Sunday will come. In this life or the next, Sunday will come."
My little family is not the only one going through hard things, I'm reminded of that every day as I see other families going through tough times.  I know Heavenly Father is mindful of all of us, and will help us through the Friday's in our lives.  I know that Sunday (or Summer) will come.  We just have to keep going, and put our trust in God.  
Keep your eternal hope for Summer.

    I remember reading over this talk many times when I have seen those around me suffering. I know it to be true. I often marvel at the fact that Jesus is not only our example, brother, friend, and SAVIOR! He is the only one that understands you, Nathan, and Sarah fully! I am praying that you receive the comfort of him that can give it... I know you do, because you are so close to him and so much like him! I love you!!!

Sarah's Story

On Wednesday September 6, 2017 Sarah woke up and threw up one time.  She was fine the rest of the day and we played outside.  That evening while Hannah, Camden, Sarah, and I were playing outside Sarah starting acting weird.  She laid her head on the cement and tried to sleep so I took all the kids in for showers and bed.  She fell asleep waiting for the shower.  She threw up, then fell back asleep.  I assumed she caught something from nursery. Thursday she was still sick.  Tired and throwing up, but nothing that had me overly worried.   Friday September 8, I thought Sarah was doing better.   She woke up and came in the kitchen asking me for a  sippy.  She hadn't had many wet diapers and I was concerned she was dehydrated   so  I texted Jana, who works at my doctors office, to ask for advice.    She said if Sarah didn't seem better by 3:00 to bring her down to the office for a strep test.  Sara...

It has been an eventful week for Miss Sarah! Last Monday she started chemo.  Her dressing was removed to prevent skin burns from Thiotepa.  3x daily baths begin.   Tuesday, more chemo and more baths.  During one of her baths I notice her line looks like it’s come out slightly.  They do a chest x-ray…it has come out a little, but it is still in just far enough.   Wednesday we give Sarah her first bath of the day and the line has come out at least two inches.  We hurry and put her gauze wrap on to hold what is left of the line in place.  Another chest x-ray confirms the line is out of place.  The gauze comes off for her next bath and the line just falls out.  She needs a new line placed before her counts drop but after the crazy skin burning chemo has been out of her system for 48 hours.  That evening I realized she would be going in for surgery the next day and hadn’t had a priesthood blessing.  I text the Branch Pr...
