Christmas Miracles

The plan was for Sarah's surgery today to be around lunchtime.  The operating room called and said they would be ready for Sarah to come down at 8:30.  Nathan was planning on coming before Sarah went down, but with the new time I didn't know if he would make it.  I really wanted Sarah to have a priesthood blessing before surgery.  I asked the nurse if there was any way and she got right on it.  The Branch President for Primary Children's Hospital called me about twenty minutes after I asked my nurse. He told me he was finding out who was at the hospital and available to give Sarah a blessing, but if he couldn't find someone who could make it in time he would be right here.  An employee named Jared showed up shortly after that to give our little angel a blessing.  It was such a sweet blessing...he was pretty emotional, and that made me cry even more. Nathan made it just in time to see Sarah and walk us down for surgery.

-Cuddling with Daddy before surgery-

Sarah just wanted to be held, so Nathan and I took turns holding her while the anesthesiologists gave her some medicine to make her relax so they could take her away, but she has a pretty high threshold for sleeping meds....they took the edge off, but she was still awake.  It broke my heart to see them walking away with her as she looked over their shoulder, reaching for me saying, "Mama..."

Surgery went really well.  Her surgeon is amazing...very thorough, careful, and talented.  He said the tumor was in a tricky spot.  It had two big arteries going through it he had to be very careful of.  If they were hurt it could cause a stroke and she could lose use of her legs, so he didn't know how much of the tumor he would be able to get.  We were blessed, and he was able to get the tumor....even the tricky parts surrounding the arteries.

She has been awake most of the afternoon, totally happy even though I know she's in pain.  She has been snacking on graham crackers, drinking a slushy, and her bottle of apple juice while she watches movies.  My heart is just SO full.  The chaplain here asked me how I kept a good attitude through it all.  I told her it is all dark and scary enough, even with a positive, hopeful outlook....I can't do it any other way.
